Example of Usage - PATTERN EXPERT legeo
Successful Reading Trial in a Cold Rolling Mill
On leaving the tandem mill a serial number is immediately printed on each steel coil. This number is printed in numerals as well as
in a Dot Matrix form. (cf. sample images).
The Dot Matrix consists of 10x10 spots. Its original dimensions are 70x70 mm. Reading the Dot Matrix is exceedingly difficult under
the given industrial conditions:
- partially poor print quality (due to oily surfaces),
- a very large display window is required (due to significant differences in the coil diameters resulting in considerably
varying Dot Matrix positions),
- a large camera distance is required (a safety distance between the camera and the coils is necessary as the coils are
continually moving on a crane),
- difficult varying light conditions (any extra illumination by the reading system is prohibited for safety reasons, i.e. safety
margins in connection with the danger of any glare stunning the crane operator or other staff).
The
code scanner system PATTERN EXPERT legeo allows for a reliable identification of all coils.
- 34 coils (within approximately 4 hours).
- Camera: Monacor TVCCD-2006, 12mm lens (Pentax).
- Object distance: approx. 2-3 m (depending on the coil's diameter).
- Illumination: the ordinary workshop lighting plus irregularly varying floodlight from the overhead crane.
